Principal's Welcome,

Holy Redeemer Grade School, along with Most Holy Redeemer Parish, is a cornerstone of the Catholic community of Southwest Detroit as we Unleash the Gospel to the families that we serve.

Here at Holy Redeemer our main goal is to create an environment for our students to grow in their Catholic faith.  We strive to not only have our students intellectually know their faith, but to be Proudly Catholic, where they learn their faith, love their faith and desire to share their faith with others.

At Holy Redeemer our goal is Academic Excellence.  We strive to have an academically sound curriculum to prepare students for high school. We seek to nurture the rich multicultural environment within our school and community. We aim to recognize and accept each child as an individual with God given abilities. We strive to establish an atmosphere of mutual respect, care and concern.

Our goal at Holy Redeemer is to have our school Accessible to All.  We work with families, offer scholarships and find benefactors to help our families cover the tuition costs so that all families eligible in the Southwest community can attend Holy Redeemer.

Holy Redeemer Grade School Administration seeks to make our school Sustainable for the future so that future generations can continue to receive the gift of their Catholic Faith at an excellent school here in the city.

Our History

Holy Redeemer Grade School has stood on the Corner of Excellence at Junction and Vernor for the past 140 years, serving the community and students of Southwest Detroit in the Archdiocese of Detroit.  It was founded in 1882, by the IHM (Immaculate Heart of Mary) Sisters whose Mother House is in Monroe, MI. The current building was built in 1901 and has educated students through many decades. We are proud of our affiliation with the IHM Sisters who provided leadership, spiritual guidance and wonderful education for so many years, and who continue to foster our growth and success.  Through the years we have many success stories of those who walked our halls, business leaders, a Cardinal among many religious servants, a rock star, and so many globally responsible citizens. Former Holy Redeemer students have made their mark on our community, country and world. We continue to build and educate young citizens who will lead our communities and care for our world with social awareness.  Now under the leadership of the S.O.L.T. (Society of our Lady of the Trinity) Community, with updated classrooms and modern technology our Mission stays the same: ‘To fulfill the needs of the whole student and to prepare students to grow into compassionate citizens of our Church and world’.
